It provides vital help and understanding for those children who face the greatest danger, discrimination or disadvantage; children who are unable to find the support they need anywhere else.· The Children’s Society has been able to establish the mentoring initiative in Greenwich, Tower Hamlets and Hackney thanks to generous funding from The Pears Foundation, The Allan and Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust, The Jack Petchey Foundation and V, the volunteering charity.· The mentoring scheme was developed by the charity following a year-long feasibility study, an analysis of current mentoring schemes in the UK and consultation with the hugely popular ‘Big Brothers, Big Sisters’ programme in the USA. Research by the Philadelphia-based charity found that mentored young people were less likely to start using illegal drugs, drink alcohol or play truant from school(i) To protect the young person’s identity we have not used their real name. Two rovers were launched in 2003 and arrived at sites on Mars in January 2004. Each rover was built to have the mobility and toolkit for functioning as a robotic geologist. Image Credit: NASA/JPL/Cornell University“Everything that goes up, need not come down,” may be the final bit of data gleaned from the Martian adventures of National Aeronautic and Space Administration-Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s rover, “Opportunity.”Pasadena-based NASA/JPL released a Feb. 13 statement announcing that Opportunity’s 15-year rover mission is at an end after more than a thousand commands to restore contact failed to generate a response. The last time Opportunity communicated was June 10.“It is because of trailblazing missions such as Opportunity that there will come a day when our brave astronauts walk on the surface of Mars,” said NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine. “And whey that day arrives, some portion of that first footprint will be owned by the men and women of Opportunity, and a little rover that defied the odds and did so much in the name of exploration,”According to NASA/JPL, the rover exceeded its life expectancy by 60 times and traveled more than 28 miles across the Martian landscape before settling in at Perseverance Valley. The rover has been on Mars since Jan. 24, 2004. It took seven months from its Florida launch to reach the Red Planet. It arrived 20 days after another rover, Spirit, landed on the other side of Mars, at Gusev Crater, where it traversed some five miles before wrapping up the sojourn in May 2011.During all the movement, Opportunity transmitted some 217,000 images including 360-degree color panoramas. It exposed surfaces to reveal fresh mineral deposits and cleared 72 additional targets marked for further poking, prodding and measuring. The primary objective of the rovers, according to NASA/JPL is to, “seek out historical evidence of the Red Planet’s climate and water at sites where conditions may once have been favorable for life. Because liquid water is required for life, as we know it, Opportunity’s discoveries implied that conditions at Meridiani Planum may have been habitable for some period of time in Martian history.” More Cool Stuff Herbeauty11 Signs Your Perfectionism Has Gotten Out Of ControlHerbeautyHerbeautyHerbeautyAmazing Sparks Of On-Screen Chemistry From The 90-sHerbeautyHerbeautyHerbeautyInstall These Measures To Keep Your Household Safe From Covid19HerbeautyHerbeautyHerbeautyIs It Bad To Give Your Boyfriend An Ultimatum?HerbeautyHerbeautyHerbeauty6 Strong Female TV Characters Who Deserve To Have A SpinoffHerbeautyHerbeautyHerbeauty15 things only girls who live life to the maximum understandHerbeautyHerbeauty Your email address will not be published. In Georgia, as Biden mentioned in his speech, Democrats are feeling bullish. Many more votes are yet to come in from the Atlanta area; in DeKalb County, for instance, one of the state’s largest, early in-person votes had not even begun to be counted until last night. In many of these still-uncalled states, Trump holds the lead in terms of ballots counted — but that could easily change as more mail-in ballots and some in-person votes continue to be tabulated.- Advertisement – But Democrats also picked up two Senate seats, in Colorado and Arizona, and close races remain uncalled in North Carolina, Georgia, Michigan and Maine — most of them potential Democratic pickups. The party’s path to a Senate majority may have narrowed somewhat, but the fate of the chamber, it’s safe to say, still hangs in the balance.Where we’re atBased on the states that have already been declared, Biden needs 43 more electoral votes to get to the golden number of 270, and Trump needs 57.The three Northern states that flipped for Trump in 2016 — Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania — remain uncalled. So do North Carolina and Georgia, both of which went for him in 2016 but have been heavily targeted by Democrats this cycle, and both of which are double-whammies: They have contested Senate races hitched to the presidential contest. Nov. 4, 2020, 6:08 a.m. ET “I’m here to tell you tonight, we believe we’re on track to win this election,” he said. “We knew because of the unprecedented early vote and the mail-in vote, it was going to take a while. We’re going to have to be patient until the hard work of tallying the votes is finished. And it ain’t over until every vote is counted, every ballot is counted.”Republicans yesterday did win closely contested Senate races in at least two states, Alabama and Iowa, and flipped at least six House seats, giving them a four-seat net gain in that chamber so far.- Advertisement – Updated – Advertisement – – Advertisement –
