Funeral for Scottsboro Boys Museum founder Sheila Washington

first_imgSCOTTSBORO, Ala. (AP) — A funeral has been held for Sheila Washington, founder of the Scottsboro Boys Museum and Cultural Center in Alabama. The museum is dedicated to exploring the racial injustice committed against nine young African-Americans falsely accused of raping two white women in 1930s Alabama. Washington died Jan. 29 at age 61 and her funeral was held Saturday. She opened the Scottsboro, Alabama, museum in 2010. It sheds light on the case of the nine young Blacks who faced all-white juries. All but the youngest defendant were sentenced to death. Sharecenter_img Share If Charles Savarin, Minister for national security, immigration, and labour has his wish, Sir Brian Alleyne, former acting chief justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC), will give up his membership on the Integrity Commission. In a 04 March 2011 letter to Sir Brian Alleyne, communicated through Alick Lawrence Chambers, Savarin has appealed to Alleyne to resign with immediate effect, from his position on the Integrity Commission.Savarin said Alleyne has violated the principles of the Integrity In Public Office (IPO) Commission, through statements he made in The Chronicle news paper “in which you have alleged, implicitly or expressly, that certain members of the Cabinet and in particular the Honourable Prime Minister, may be dishonest, a liar and a bad example for the young people of this country.”Alleyne also gets lashed for his attendance at meetings of the Dominica Freedom Party executive on 07 February “to discuss the possibility of general elections being called in March 2011”, meetings on 13 February 2011 and 20 February 2011, at Jungle Bay and Garraway Hotel respectively.“It is our client’s respectful position that you may not be qualified to be a Member of the Integrity Commission. Further, the statements and writings by you, and your attendance at manifestly political meetings, convey or would convey to any reasonable bystander, strong reasonable grounds to suspect or believe that there is every likelihood you may well be and/or are biased against Members of the Cabinet including our client and ought not to continue to be a Member of the Integrity Commission,” the letter highlighted.Savarin has also pointed out in his letter, that the former ECSC acting chief justice, may very well be disqualified for holding two nationalities, Dominican and Vincentian. “During a presentation or statements at the Forum held at the UWI Open Campus Dominica on 17th December 2010 and in statements published subsequently by the Chronicle you admitted, expressly or by inference, that you had citizenship of Saint Vincent & The Grenadines. It is therefore clear to our client that you could not and did not acquire citizenship through one of your parents. Therefore, this acquisition of citizenship of Saint Vincent & the Grenadines had to involve, and did involve, the application for and acquisition of a passport; and very likely a diplomatic passport.”Source: DBS News LocalNews Savarin Wants Former Chief Justice Alleyne To Resign Immediately From Integrity Commission. by: – March 11, 2011last_img read more

The 18-year-old has an impressive stat line. However, he did finish the game shootings just 6-of-17 from the field and missed all five of his long-range attempts. LaMelo Ball also tied Josh Boone for a team-worst plus-minus of negative-17. It seemed that Ball had multiple chances to take the lead in the fourth before Brisbane eventually put the game to an end with its own run in the final minutes. READ: WATCH: Kiren Rijiju Jumps For Joy On Landing Perfect Basketball ShotNot the first timeThis is not the first time that Ball has gone viral while displaying his talent. I want the Black Stars head coach job not as an assistant- Tanko

first_imgFormer Black Stars forward and now assistant coach of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, Ibrahim Tanko has declared his intention of joining the technical team of the Black Stars only as head coach not as an assistant. This revelation comes as the Ghana FA made an official statement last Friday that its outfit and the Black Stars coach James Kwesi Appiah had agreed to mutually part ways therefore making the position vacant.Reports in the media are that apart from the assistant coach Maxwell Konadu the   rest of the technical staff will follow suit and it is believed Konadu will be named as substantive coach anytime soon.Tanko has  been linked to the Black Stars assistant coach job due to his commitment exhibited  since he joined the four times African champions, Cameroon. But in an exclusive interview with Asempa Sports, the former Borussia Dortmund player says he will only accept an offer from the Ghana FA as head coach of the Black Stars.“I will not join the Black Stars coaching staff as assistant but head coach rather because if I look at those who are applying for the job at the moment then nothing prevents me from applying for the top most one”. “Anyway, am very happy with where the Cameroonian national team has gotten me into. Although is in my plan that as a coach I will come back home one day to serve my motherland”“The coach am working with is one of the best so am not sure that if any country approach me to assist now, I don’t think I will be able to do so just because I know what am getting from Volker Finke”. He addedTanko joined the Cameroon national team in June 2013 following the appointment of the German tactician, Volker Finke and was also appointed as a scout for Ghana at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nationslast_img read more
